Smoke or dusting powder can be used with the following air pressure procedure. The exact location of the leak can then be seen as smoke or powder travels through a poor seal.

  1. Perform a visual inspection. Refer to Air/Wind Noise .
  2. Mask off the body pressure relief valves.
  3. The pressure relief valves are located in the door (coupe) or rear door (sedan) openings.

  4. Close any vehicle openings, such as the doors and the windows.
  5. Pressurize the vehicle interior.
  6. Turn ON the vehicles ventilation fan or pressurize the vehicle interior with an air hose.

The abnormal amount of high pressure introduced to the interior will escape through any poor seals.

  7. With an assistant driving the vehicle use a Mechanics stethoscope, Engine ear J 39565, or equivalent, or a piece of a heater hose, to locate the source of the windnoise.
