Removal Procedure
Notice: When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent
surfaces to help prevent paint damage.
- Remove the sill plate. Refer to
Door Sill Plate Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the rocker panel molding to front fender bolts (5).
- Remove the rocker panel molding to front fender nut (6).
- Use the J 38778
to remove the rocker panel molding to
rear quarter panel push--in retainers (2).
Important: Do not break off the integral molding clips when you remove the molding
from the body.
- Unsnap and remove the rocker panel molding to body clips (7).
- Remove the rocker panel molding from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the rocker panel molding to the vehicle.
- Install the rocker panel
molding to rear quarter panel clips (7).
- Push the rear of the rocker panel molding (1) forward in
order to ensure a flush fit with the quarter panel flange at the wheel opening.
- Install the rocker panel molding by snapping the tabs into the
door slots.
- Install the rocker panel molding stud to the front fender.
- Push the front of the rocker panel molding rearward in order to
ensure a flush fit with the fender flange at the wheel opening.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the rocker
panel to front fender nut (6).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Install the rocker panel molding to front fender bolts (5).
Tighten
Tighten the screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Install the rocker panel molding to rear quarter push--in
retainers.
- Install the sill plate. Refer to
Door Sill Plate Replacement
in Interior Trim.
