Removal Procedure

    Caution: Standard shop practices, particularly eye protection, should be followed during these operations to avoid personal injury.

  1. Position the window to the full up position.
  2. Remove the trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  3. Remove inner the energy absorber pad coupe only). Refer to Outer Front Energy Absorber Pad Replacement .
  4. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .

    5. Object Number: 293870 Size: SH
  5. Open the handle clips (1) in order to remove the lock and handle rods (2,3) from the handle.

    6. Important: Support the back side of the rivet while driving the mandrel out to avoid possible damage to the sheet metal.

  6. Use a center punch to drive out the mandrel.
  7. Drill out the rivets (6) (sedan).

    8. Use a 6 mm (1/4 in) drill bit.

  8. Remove the inside door handle bolt (coupe only).
  9. Remove the inside door handle (7) from the door.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 293870 Size: SH
  1. Install the inside door handle (7) to the door.

    2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  2. Install the inside door handle bolt (coupe only).

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the inside door handle bolt (coupe) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    Important: Install the rivet through the hole in the handle first, followed by a rivet through the slot in the handle (sedan only).

  3. Install the rivets (6).
  4. Install the handle and lock rods (2,3) to the handle.

    5. Secure the rods with clips (1).

  5. Install the energy absorber pad (coupe only). Refer to Outer Front Energy Absorber Pad Replacement .
  6. Install the water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  7. Install the trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
