Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

    Notice: When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.

  1. Remove the rear compartment side trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side in Body Rear End.
  2. Remove the license lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  3. Remove the rear sidemarker lamp. Refer to Marker Lamp Replacement - Rear Side in Lighting Systems.
  4. Remove the tail lamp. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  5. Object Number: 293824  Size: SH
  6. Use the J 38778 to remove the rear bumper fascia to rear body panel push--in retainers (1).
  7. Remove the rear bumper fascia reinforcement to quarter panel bolts (6, 4).
  8. Remove the rear bumper fascia reinforcement to rear quarter panel nuts (7).
  9. Remove the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement in Body Rear End.
  10. Remove the bolts (4) securing the upper edge of the rear bumper fascia to the quarter panel from underneath the vehicle immediately rear of the wheel opening.
  11. Use the J 38778 to remove the rear bumper fascia to rear bumper impact bar push--in retainers (2).
  12. Remove the rear bumper fascia (3) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 293824  Size: SH
  1. Install the rear bumper fascia (3) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the rear bumper fascia to rear body panel push--in retainers (1).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the rear bumper fascia reinforcement to quarter panel nuts (7).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia reinforcement to rear quarter panel nuts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  6. Install the rear bumper fascia to rear bumper impact bar push--in retainers (2).
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   8. Install the rear bumper fascia reinforcement to quarter panel bolts (6, 4).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper fascia reinforcement to rear quarter panel bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  10. Install the rear bumper fascia splash shield. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Splash Shield Replacement in Body Rear End.
  11. Install the tail lamp. Refer to Tail Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  12. Install the rear sidemarker lamp. Refer to Marker Lamp Replacement - Rear Side in Lighting Systems.
  13. Install the license lamp. Refer to Rear License Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  14. Install the rear compartment side trim panel. Refer to Rear Compartment Side Trim Replacement - Right Side in Body Rear End.
