Removal Procedure

  1. Open the instrument panel (IP) compartment door.
  2. Remove the IP compartment latch screws.
  3. Remove the IP compartment latch from the IP compartment.
  4. Insert the key into the IP compartment door lock cylinder.
  5. Insert a small diameter tool into the slot on the upper side of the door handle cylinder housing. Depress and hold the lock cylinder retainer.
  6. While the lock cylinder retainer is still depressed, turn the key ¼ turn counterclockwise.
  7. Pull to remove the lock cylinder.

Installation Procedure

  1. Insert the key into the lock cylinder.
  2. Align the lock cylinder in the same position used for removal. Push the cylinder in place to seat fully.
  3. Turn the key ¼ turn clockwise to secure the lock cylinder retainer.
  4. Remove the key from the lock cylinder.
  5. Inspect the operation of the lock cylinder.
  6. The lock cylinder should only allow a ¼ turn and should be securely retained in the door handle.

  7. Align and install the IP compartment latch to the IP compartment.
  8. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Install the IP compartment latch screws.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the IP compartment latch screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  11. Close the IP compartment door.
