Was the Wiper/Washer System Check performed?

  1. Remove the wiper fuse.
  2. Connect an ammeter (0-30 amp) across the wiper fuse block terminals.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  4. Set the wiper switch to LO.
  5. Observe the lowest current draw while the wipers are running on dry glass (current draw will fluctuate).
  6. Set the wiper switch to OFF.

Is the lowest current draw less than the specified value?

3.5 amps

Go to Step 3

Replace the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Is the lowest current draw greater than the specified value?

6.5 amps

Inspect for an intermittent poor connection or an open in CKTs 293, 91, 92, 95, 196, and 1050.

Is a poor connection or an open present?

Repair the poor connection or the open.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Replace the wiper blade elements. Refer to Wiper Blade Element Replacement .

  1. Set the wiper switch to LO.
  2. Observe the ammeter for the lowest current draw while the wipers are running on dry glass (current draw will fluctuate).
  3. Set the wiper switch to OFF.

Is the lowest current draw greater than the specified value?

6.5 amps

  1. Disconnect the wiper transmission drive link from the wiper motor crank arm.
  2. Set the wiper switch to LO.
  3. Observe the ammeter for the lowest current draw while the wipers are running on dry glass (current draw will fluctuate).
  4. Set the wiper switch to OFF.

Is the lowest current draw greater than the specified value?

6.5 amps
