The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Recall 07164 has you check the build date on the air brake valve but does not show you how to read the date. Step 1 has you check the air brake valve to see if the manufacture date is within the range of D0106 ( April 01,2006 ) and E2406 ( May 24,2006 ). To determine the date code of your vehicle, the 2nd digit of the code is a letter and equals the month: A= January, B= February and ETC. The next 2 digits are the day of the month and the 5th and 6th digits are the year.
Example Build Date: 1D0706T = April, 07 2006.
D = month (January = A, February = B, etc)
07 = day of month (3 and 4 digits)
06 = year
Step 2 has you check for a number 1 or 2 after the " Bendix " stamping. On newer valves, the number may be actually below the "Be" in Bendix.
The number could be stamped in either arrow location. (See Photo Below)
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
