Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling.
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement .
- Remove the steering column filler. Refer to
Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement.
- Remove the tilt lever.
- Remove the 2 retaining screws from the lower steering column trim cover.
- Separate the upper steering column cover from the lower steering column cover and remove them from the steering column.
Installation Procedure
Important: Make sure that the tabs from the upper steering column cover line up to the lower steering column cover and engage properly.
- Position the upper steering column cover and the lower steering column cover together on the steering column.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the 2 retaining screws to the lower steering column trim cover.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).
- Install the tilt lever.
- Install the steering column filler. Refer to
Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement.
- Install the steering wheel. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling.
