- Place the shift lever in the PARK position.
- Place the ignition key in the LOCK position.
- Ensure the shift lever cannot move to another position. The ignition key
should be removable from the ignition switch.
- Place the ignition key in the RUN position.
- Place the shift lever in the NEUTRAL position.
- Ensure that the ignition key cannot turn to the LOCK position.
- The system is properly adjusted if the above conditions are met. Proceed
to Step 13.
- If the above conditions are not met proceed to Step 9.
- Remove the front floor console. Refer to
Front Floor Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Disengage lock in adjuster body by squeezing
release tabs and pulling away from cable body. Cable should move freely
within adjuster body.
- Readjust the cable connector as outlined.
- Push the cable adjustment feature until
all slack is removed from cable and no gap exists between cable end and adjustment
feature.
- Depress cable lock.
- Retest the operation.
- If the ignition key cannot be removed in the PARK position, repeat adjustment
procedure until key can be moved from the ignition.
- Install the front floor console. Refer to
Front Floor Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
