Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.4L

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.4L.

  3. Object Number: 1204150  Size: SH
  4. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut from the A/C condenser.
  5. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the A/C condenser.

  6. Object Number: 1204149  Size: SH
  7. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut from the compressor hose block to evaporator tube.
  8. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the evaporator tube.
  9. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  10. Object Number: 277924  Size: SH
  11. Remove the A/C compressor hose bolt from the A/C compressor.
  12. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor.
  13. Remove and discard all sealing washers.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new sealing washers onto the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the A/C compressor hose to the A/C compressor.

  3. Object Number: 277924  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the A/C compressor.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  6. Install the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  7. Install the new seal washers to the A/C compressor hose assembly and evaporator tube. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 1204149  Size: SH
  9. Install the A/C compressor hose to the evaporator tube.
  10. Install the A/C compressor hose to evaporator tube nut.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  12. Install the A/C compressor hose to the condenser.
  13. Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the condenser.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  15. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.4L.
  16. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .

Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement 3.8L

Tools Required

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8L.

  3. Object Number: 1204150  Size: SH
  4. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut from the condenser.
  5. Disconnect the A/C compressor hose from the condenser.

  6. Object Number: 1204149  Size: SH
  7. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut from the compressor hose block to evaporator tube.
  8. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the evaporator tube.
  9. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  10. Object Number: 1199944  Size: SH
  11. Remove the A/C compressor hose nut from the A/C compressor.
  12. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the A/C compressor.
  13. Remove and discard all sealing washers.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install new sealing washers onto the A/C compressor hose assembly. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  2. Install the A/C compressor hose to the A/C compressor.

  9. Install the A/C compressor hose to the evaporator tube.
  10. Install the A/C compressor hose to evaporator tube nut.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  12. Install the A/C compressor hose to the condenser.
  13. Install the A/C compressor hose nut to the condenser.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  15. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8L.
  16. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A .
