Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.

- Remove the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
.
- Remove the following from the steering shaft:
3.1. | steering shaft seal (6) |
3.3. | lower spring retainer (4) |
3.4. | lower bearing spring (3) |
3.5. | lower bearing seat (2) |
3.6. | adapter and bearing assembly (1) |
Installation Procedure
- Install the following
to the steering shaft:
1.1. | adapter and bearing assembly (1) |
1.2. | lower bearing seat (2) |
1.3. | lower bearing spring (3) |
1.4. | lower spring retainer (4) |
1.6. | steering shaft seal (6) |
- Install the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to
Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
.
- Enable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
