Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side 3.8L
Removal Procedure
- Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to
Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
- Remove the right and left engine mount struts. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right Side
and
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side
in Engine
Mechanical - 3.8L.
- Remove the exhaust crossover pipe from the left exhaust manifold.
Refer to
Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement
.
- Remove the spark plug wires from the left side spark plugs. Refer
to
Spark Plug Wire Replacement
in Engine
Controls - 3.8L.
- Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to
Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
- Remove the left engine lift bracket nut, bolt and engine lift
bracket.
- Remove the left exhaust manifold heat shield nuts and the exhaust manifold
heat shield.
- Remove the left exhaust
manifold bolts and studs.
- Remove the left exhaust manifold and gasket.
- Clean and inspect the left exhaust manifold mating surfaces.
Installation Procedure
- Install the left exhaust
manifold gasket and the left exhaust manifold to the cylinder head.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the left
exhaust manifold bolts and studs to the left exhaust manifold.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold bolts and studs to 30 N·m
(22 lb ft).
- Install the left exhaust manifold heat shield to the exhaust manifold.
- Install the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts to 20 N·m
(15 lb ft).
- Install the left engine lift bracket, nut and bolt to the engine.
Tighten
Tighten the engine lift bracket nut and bolt to 30 N·m
(22 lb ft).
- Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to
Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement
in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
- Install the spark plug wires to the left side spark plugs. Refer
to
Spark Plug Wire Replacement
in Engine
Controls - 3.8L.
- Install the exhaust crossover to the left exhaust manifold. Refer
to
Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement
.
- Install the right and left engine mount struts. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right Side
and
Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left Side
in Engine
Mechanical - 3.8L.
- Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to
Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement
In Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side 3.4L
Removal Procedure
Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads
must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury
and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to
Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement
in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
- Remove the right engine mount strut bracket. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement - Right Side
in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L.
- Remove the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts and the heat shield.
- Remove the exhaust crossover
pipe nuts from the left exhaust manifold.
- Remove the left exhaust
manifold heat shield bolts.
- Remove the left exhaust manifold heat shield.
- Remove the left exhaust
manifold nuts.
- Remove the left exhaust manifold.
- Remove the left exhaust manifold gasket.
- Clean and inspect the left exhaust manifold mating surfaces.
Installation Procedure
- Install the left exhaust
manifold gasket.
- Install the left exhaust manifold.

exhaust manifold nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the left exhaust manifold nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).
- Install the left exhaust
manifold heat shield.
- Install the left exhaust manifold heat shield bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the left exhaust manifold heat shield bolts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Install the exhaust crossover
pipe nuts to the left exhaust manifold.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust crossover pipe nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield and bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Install the right engine mount strut bracket. Refer to
Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement - Right Side
in Engine Mechanical - 3.4L.
- Install the air cleaner intake duct. Refer to
Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement
in Engine Controls - 3.4L.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine
Electrical.
