Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement Impala

Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the insulator from the left and the right instrument panel (IP). Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  4. Remove the knee bolster brackets from the IP. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement or Passenger Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  5. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  6. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  7. Remove the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  8. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  9. Remove the multifunction switch. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.

  10. Object Number: 519536  Size: SH
  11. Remove the access cover from the right IP.
  12. Remove the IP compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  13. Remove the floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  14. If the vehicle is equipped with column shift, perform the following steps:
  15. 13.1. Engage the parking brake.
    13.2. Position the transaxle shift control indicator to 1.
  16. Remove the ignition switch cylinder bezel.
  17. Remove the IP cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  18. Remove the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  19. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  20. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  21. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  22. Remove the hood release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End.
  23. Disconnect the data link connector.
  24. Remove the garnish moldings from the left and the right windshield pillar. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  25. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  26. Remove the trim pad from the upper IP. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  27. Remove the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement in Keyless Entry.
  28. Remove the trim plate bezel from the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  29. Remove the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  30. Remove the SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  31. Remove the IP compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  33. Remove the IP assembly screws in the order indicated in the graphic.
  34. Reposition the IP wiring harness.
  35. Remove the IP assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 519552  Size: SH
  1. Position the IP assembly within the vehicle.
  2. Reposition the IP wiring harness.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the bolts which secure the IP trim pad to the cross vehicle beam in the order indicated in the graphic.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the IP compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  7. Install the SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  8. Install the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 519561  Size: SH
  10. Install the screws which secure the IP trim pad to the IP compartment bracket.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  12. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  13. Install the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement in Keyless Entry.
  14. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  15. Install the garnish moldings to the right and the left windshield pillar. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  16. Connect the electrical connector to the SIR inflator module.
  17. Install the SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  18. Install the data link connector.
  19. Install the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End.
  20. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  21. Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  22. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  23. Install the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  24. Install the IP cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .

  26. Install the ignition switch cylinder bezel.
  27. Position the transaxle shift control indicator to Park.
  28. Release the parking brake.
  29. Install the multifunction switch. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  30. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  31. Install the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  32. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  33. Install the steering wheel SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  34. Install the floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  35. Install the IP compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .

  37. Install the access cover to the right IP fuse block.
  38. Install the knee bolster brackets to the IP. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement or Passenger Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  39. Install steering column filler panel to the IP lower trim panel. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  40. Install the left and the right IP insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  41. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  42. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement Monte Carlo

Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the left and the right instrument panel (IP) insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  4. Remove the steering column filler panel. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  5. Remove the knee bolster brackets from the IP. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement or Passenger Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  6. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  7. Remove the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  8. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  9. Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  10. Remove the IP cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  11. Remove the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  12. Remove the radio system. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  13. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems-Manual.

  15. Disconnect the floor console storage bin lamp, if equipped.
  16. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  17. Remove the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement .
  18. Disconnect the data link connector.
  19. Remove the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  20. Disconnect and reposition the left fuse block wiring harness.
  21. Remove the garnish moldings from the left and the right windshield pillar. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  22. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  23. Remove the IP compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  24. Disconnect the IP compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  25. Remove the right upper IP trim panel. Remove the right lower IP trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  26. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  27. Remove the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement in Keyless Entry.
  28. Remove the inflatable restraint IP module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  29. Disconnect and reposition the right IP fuse block wiring harness.

  31. Remove the small IP trim pad screws.

  32. Object Number: 580719  Size: SH
  33. Remove the large IP trim pad screws in the order shown in the graphic.
  34. Reposition the IP wiring harness.
  35. Remove the IP trim pad from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 580719  Size: SH
  1. Position the IP trim pad to the vehicle.
  2. Position the IP wiring harness to the original location on the IP assembly.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   4. Install the large IP trim pad screws in the order shown in the graphic.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the trim pad screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the small IP trim pad screws.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the trim pad screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  8. Connect the right IP fuse block wiring harness.
  9. Install the inflatable restraint IP module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  10. Install the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement in Keyless Entry.
  11. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  12. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  13. Install the right lower IP trim panel. Install the right upper IP trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  14. Connect the IP compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  15. Install the IP compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  16. Connect the left fuse block wiring harness.
  17. Install the garnish moldings to the right and the left windshield pillar. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  18. Install the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  19. Connect the data link connector.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the data link connector screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  21. Install the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End .
  22. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  24. Connect the floor console storage bin lamp, if equipped.
  25. Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC Control Module Replacement in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  26. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  27. Position the ignition switch within the instrument panel.
  28. Install the ignition switch bolts.
  29. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  30. Install the IP cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  31. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  32. Install the steering column covers.
  33. Install the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column-Tilt.
  34. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  35. Install the knee bolster brackets to the IP. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement or Passenger Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  36. Install the steering column filler panel. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  37. Install the left and the right IP insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  38. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  39. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
