Tools Required
J 39400-A Halogen
Leak Detector
Removal Procedure
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls 3.4L or
Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls
3.8L.
- Remove the cross vehicle brace. Refer to
Cross Vehicle Brace Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Remove the vacuum brake booster. Refer to
Power Vacuum Brake Booster Replacement
in Hydraulic Brakes.
- Remove the evaporator tube/suction hose bracket.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the lower radiator air baffle. Refer to
Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors
in Engine Cooling.
- Loosen the condenser tube
nut at the condenser.
- Disconnect the condenser tube from the condenser.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Disconnect the A/C refrigerant pressure sensor electrical connector.
- Loosen the evaporator
inlet tube nut.
- Disconnect the evaporator tube from the condenser tube.
Important: Use care when removing the condenser tube.
- Remove the condenser tube.
- Remove and discard the O-ring.
- Remove the A/C pressure sensor from the condenser tube.
Installation Procedure
- Install the A/C pressure sensor to the condenser tube.
Important: Coat the new O-ring with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
- Install the new O-ring onto the condenser tube. Refer to
O-Ring Replacement
.
- Install the condenser tube into place.
- Connect the evaporator inlet tube to the condenser tube.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Tighten the evaporator
inlet tube nut.
Tighten
Tighten the evaporator inlet tube nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
- Install the lower radiator air baffle. Refer to
Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors
in Engine Cooling.
- Connect the A/C refrigerant pressure sensor electrical connector.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
