Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the left valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side .
  2. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Replacement .
  4. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  5. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 61836  Size: SH
  7. Remove the lifter guide bolts.
  8. Remove the lifter guide(s).
  9. Remove the valve lifter(s).
  10. Clean the gasket surfaces.
  11. Clean the valve train parts.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 61836  Size: SH
  1. Coat the valve lifters using prelube GM P/N 1052365 or the equivalent.
  2. Install the valve lifters in their original locations.
  3. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 or the equivalent to the threads.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the valve lifter guides and guide bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the valve lifter guide bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  8. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  9. Install the upper intake manifold. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Replacement .
  10. Install the right valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side .
  11. Install the left valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side .
