Subject: | 00012 -- Trunk Release Incorrect Operations |
Models: | Certain 2000 Chevrolet Impala Police Vehicles with RPO A98 |
General Motors has decided that certain 2000 Chevrolet Impala police vehicles equipped with RPO A98 may exhibit a condition in which the trunk release does not function correctly. The instrument panel switch should only activate the trunk release with the transaxle in PARK (P) and the key in the ignition and in the ON/RUN position. On involved vehicles, the instrument panel switch will activate the trunk release with the transaxle in PARK (P) without the key in the ignition, or with the key in the ignition at any position.
To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, dealers are to replace the body control module (BCM) and program the new BCM.
Involved are the following 2000 Chevrolet Impala model vehicles equipped with police equipment, RPO A98:

Important: Dealers should confirm vehicle eligibility through VISS (Vehicle Information Service System) or GM Access Screen (Canada only) or DCS Screen 445 (IPC only) prior to beginning campaign repairs.
Involved vehicles have been identified by Vehicle Identification Number. Computer listings containing the complete Vehicle Identification Number, customer name and address data have been prepared, and are being furnished to involved dealers with the campaign bulletin. The customer name and address data furnished will enable dealers to follow-up with customers involved in this campaign. Any dealer not receiving a computer listing with the campaign bulletin has no involved vehicles currently assigned.
These dealer listings may contain customer names and addresses obtained from Motor Vehicle Registration Records. The use of such motor vehicle registration data for any other purpose is a violation of law in several states/provinces/countries. Accordingly, you are urged to limit the use of this listing to the follow-up necessary to complete this campaign.
THE NEW, CORRECTED BCM P/N 10438145 IS THE SAME P/N AS THE BCM WITHOUT THE CORRECTION. THE CORRECTED BCM MODEL NUMBER IS GMAB139, AND IS LOCATED ON THE BCM LABEL, JUST BELOW THE BARCODE. P/N 10438145 BCMS WITH PREVIOUS MODEL NUMBERS CANNOT BE USED IN IMPALA POLICE VEHICLES WITH RPO A98, BUT MAY BE USED IN OTHER 2000 MODEL IMPALA VEHICLES.
Important: An initial supply of parts required to complete this campaign will be pre-shipped to involved dealers of record. This pre-shipment will occur the week of March 6, 2000. Pre-shipped parts will be charged to dealer's open parts account.
Additional parts, if required, are to be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.
Part Number | Description | Qty/ Vehicle |
---|---|---|
10438145 | Module, Body Control (Model GMAB139) | 1 |
Important: Due to the small number of vehicles involved and due to limited initial parts availability, dealers are encouraged not to order campaign parts for use as shelf stock. Parts should only be ordered when inspection determines that it is necessary to replace the BCM.
Important: The new, corrected BCM P/N 10438145 is the same P/N as the BCM without the correction. The corrected BCM model number is GMAB139, and is located on the BCM label, just below the barcode. P/N 10438145 BCMs with previous model numbers cannot be used in Impala police vehicles with RPO A98, but may be used in other 2000 model Impala vehicles.
