2

  1. Record the initial odometer reading.
  2. Operate the vehicle over a known distance of at least 8 kilometers (5 miles).
  3. Record the end odometer reading.
  4. Compare the indicated distance driven to the actual distance driven.

Is the indicated distance driven within 4 % of the actual distance driven?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

3

Inspect the vehicle control module (VCM) for the correct calibration for the axle ratio and tire size.

Is the calibration correct for the axle ratio and tire size of the vehicle?

Go to Step 6

4

  1. Connect a scan tool in order to monitor vehicle speed.
  2. Record the initial odometer reading.
  3. Perform a drive test over a known distance of at least 8 kilometers (5 miles).
  4. Operate the vehicle at 80 - 110 km/h (50 - 65 mph), if practical.
  5. Observe the scan tool for the actual speed.
  6. Observe the speedometer.
  7. Record the final odometer reading.
  8. Record the actual distance driven.

While at speed, are the scan tool and the speedometer indications are within 6 km/h (4 mph) of each other?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 8

5

Divide the actual distance driven by the distance driven indicated by the odometer.

Is the indicated ratio between 0.96 - 1.04?

--

System OK

Go to Step 7

6

Have the axle ratio or the tire size been modified on the vehicle?

--
