Did you review the instrument cluster circuit description and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Place the transmission in PARK.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  3. Depress the brake pedal.
  4. Shift the transmission selector into each gear position.
  5. Observe and record the PRNDL indication displayed in each gear position.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

Does the PRNDL indicate the correct gear in each position?

Did some or all of the PRNDL indications light?

  1. Disconnect the instrument cluster.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  3. Connect a J 35616-200 unpowered test lamp between instrument cluster connector cavity B10 for CKT 1020 (PNK) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Did the test lamp light?

  1. Disconnect park/neutral position switch connector C1.
  2. Connect a J 39200 DMM between park/neutral position switch connector C1 cavity D for CKT 150 (BLK) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Is continuity present?

  1. Disconnect park/neutral position switch connector C2.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  3. Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between the park/neutral position switch connector C2 cavity A for CKT 771 (BLK/WHT) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the DMM display specified value?

B+

Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between the park/neutral position switch connector C2 cavity C for CKT 776 (WHT) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between the park/neutral position switch connector C2 cavity D for CKT 772 (YEL) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Using a J 39200 DMM, measure the voltage between the park/neutral position switch connector C2 cavity B for CKT 773 (GRY) and ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

  1. Connect between 2 and 4 J 36169-A fused jumper wires between the following components:
  2. • The specified park/neutral position switch connector C2 cavitiy (A,B,C, or D)
    • Ground
  3. Observe the PRNDL indication at the instrument cluster.
  4. Repeat this procedure for each gear position. Refer to PRNDL Logic Input Test .

Repair the open in CKT 1020 (PNK) between the IP fuse block and the instrument cluster. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open in CKT 150 (BLK) between the instrument cluster and ground G103. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or short to ground in CKT 771 (BLK/WHT) between the instrument cluster and the park/neutral position switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
