The clearance between the holes in the support or the housing and the pivot pin diameter is excessive.

Inspect for the following conditions:

The joint preload spring is broken or missing.

Replace the joint preload spring. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, and Jacket - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The upper bearing is not seated in the housing.

Seat the bearing in the housing.

The upper bearing inner race seat is missing.

Replace the inner race seat. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle or Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Assemble - Off Vehicle .

The support screws are loose.

Tighten the support screws to the specified torque. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
