Possible Cause

Correction

Air in the fluid causes internal pump leakage leading to loss of fluid.

  1. Inspect the pump for a leak.
  2. Repair the leak.
  3. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  4. Verify the system operation.
  5. Important: Extremely cold temperatures cause system aeration when the fluid level is low.

  6. If the fluid level is correct, but the fluid in the pump still foams, remove the pump.
  7. Separate the reservoir from the housing.
  8. Inspect the welsh plug and the housing for cracks.
  9. If the plug is loose or the housing has cracks, replace the housing. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .

A hose leaks.

  1. Inspect the hose for a leak.
  2. Repair the leak.
  3. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  4. Verify the system operation.
  5. Important: Extremely cold temperatures cause system aeration when the fluid level is low.

  6. If the fluid level is correct, but the fluid in the pump still foams, remove the pump.
  7. Separate the reservoir from the housing.
  8. Inspect the welsh plug and the housing for cracks.
  9. If the plug is loose or the housing has cracks, replace the housing. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement .
