Condition

Some customers may comment on a rattle, squeak or itching noise coming from the instrument panel (IP), bezel, dash or cluster area.

Cause

The instrument panel cluster (IPC) trim panel may be loose or rub the IPC lens.

Correction

Do This

Don't Do This

Install Flocking Tape to IPC Trim Panel Bezel.

Do Not Replace IPC Trim Panel Bezel.

Install flocking tape to the IPC trim panel and anti-squeak film tape to the IPC trim panel retaining holes following the steps below:

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Position the steering column to the full tilt down position.

    3. Important: Do not remove the lower steering column trim cover.

  3. Remove the upper steering column trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement in SI.
  4. Remove the instrument cluster trim panel. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement in SI.

    5. Tip
    Pull the IPC trim panel rearward to disengage the retainer clips.

  5. Cut five pieces of anti-squeak film tape in 25 mm (1 in) x 12 mm ( ½ in) sizes.

  6. The five IPC trim panel retainer locations (1) are shown above.

    7. Object Number: 1964280 Size: SH
  7. Install the pieces of anti-squeak tape (1) on all retainer locations as shown in the above graphic example.

    8. Object Number: 1964284 Size: SH
  8. Cut slots (1) into the center of the anti-squeak film tape at all five locations.
  9. Cut a piece of flocking tape into a 12 mm (½ in) x 277 mm (11 in) strip.

    10. Object Number: 1964287 Size: SH

    Important: The tape should be flush to the edge and between the two locating pins on the outer beveled edge of the trim panel. Trim any excess tape that may be seen by the customer.

  10. Install the flocking tape (1) flush to the outer edge of the IPC trim panel.

    11. Important: The IPC trim panel should have four retaining clips and two rubber stoppers in place prior to installation.

  11. Install the IPC trim panel. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
  12. Install the upper steering column trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement in SI.
  13. Verify the condition has been fixed.
