Subject: | Information on DTC C056E 4B Set After Replacing Power Steering Control Module or Unable to Perform Steering Position Torque Sensor Calibration Procedure |
Models: | 2007 Chevrolet Equinox |
2007 Pontiac Torrent |
After replacing the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) or steering column assembly, the "Service Power Steering" warning message may come on with a DTC C056E 4B. Also, when following the instructions on the Tech 2® to perform the Steering Position/Torque Sensor calibration procedure, the technician may get a message on the Tech 2® saying "Procedure Failed" or "Possible Wrong Vehicle Selected".
DO NOT REPLACE THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM).
Any time the Power Steering Control Module is replaced, it is necessary to perform the Steering Position/Torque Sensor Calibration procedure described in SI. Refer to Power Steering Control Module Programming and Set-up.
Important:
• Make sure the Tech 2® is updated with version 27.002 or newer. • Because there is no steering assist when performing this procedure, it is easier to perform this procedure with the front wheels off the ground.
The following information may helpful if the calibration procedure was not successful. In any event, it will be necessary to perform the procedure again.
This message may occur for either/both of the following reasons:
• | if any torque is applied to the steering wheel during the last step of the procedure -- returning the steering wheel back to center. |
• | the procedure was not performed fast enough and time has expired. Perform the procedure again, turning the steering wheel a little faster. |
If the "Possible Wrong Vehicle Selected" message is displayed, start the procedure over from step 1.
