Diagnostic Instructions
DTC Descriptor
DTC C0460 00: Steering Position Sensor
Circuit/System Description
The power steering control module (PSCM) continuously monitors the motor rotational sensor sinusoidal voltage signals. The sinusoidal voltage signals of the motor rotational sensor and the angle difference between the steering column output and input shafts
detected by the torque sensor are both processed by the PSCM to detect and calculate the steering wheel angle.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The ignition is ON.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The PSCM detects open, short to ground or short between any of the motor rotational sensor circuits.
Actions Taken When DTC Sets
• | DTC C0460 00 is stored in memory. |
• | The driver information center (DIC) displays the SERVICE POWER STEERING message. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | A current DTC will clear on the next malfunction free ignition cycle. |
• | A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles. |

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, verify that scan tool parameter Steering Wheel Angle is +/- 90 degrees when turning steering wheel +/- 90 degrees.
Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the C2 harness connector at the PSCM.
- Ignition OFF, test for 10-200 ohms of resistance between terminal 1 and terminal 3.
⇒ | If outside the specified range, test the exciting circuit and the exciting ground circuit for an open/high resistance or a short. If the circuits test normal, replace the electric power steering (EPS) motor. |
- Ignition OFF, test for 3K-10K ohms of resistance between terminal 6 and terminal 3.
⇒ | If outside the specified range, test the SIN circuit and the exciting ground circuit for an open/high resistance or a short. If the circuits test normal, replace the EPS motor. |
- Ignition OFF, test for 6K-20K ohms of resistance between terminal 5 and terminal 3.
⇒ | If outside the specified range, test the COS circuit and the exciting ground circuit for an open/high resistance or a short. If the circuits test normal, replace the EPS motor. |
- Ignition OFF, test for greater than 1M ohms of resistance between terminal 3 and the motor flange.
⇒ | If less than the specified value, test the exciting ground circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EPS motor. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the PSCM.
