Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1255740 Size: SH
  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Remove the parking brake/gearshift console hood. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement.
  3. Measure the thread length from the end of the pull rod to the hex nut.

    4. Object Number: 1255741 Size: SH
  4. Remove the parking brake adjustment nut from the eye bolt pull rod of the parking brake lever assembly.

    5. Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  5. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  6. Remove the front muffler and heat shield.
  7. Remove the parking brake cable ends from the parking brake cable rod.

  8. Remove the bolts which secure the parking brake lever assembly to the underbody.

    9. Object Number: 1255735 Size: SH
  9. Remove the parking brake switch from the parking brake lever assembly.

    10. Note: The parking brake switch should be replaced if the BRAKE warning light in the instrument panel cluster did not glow when the parking brake was applied with the ignition ON.

  10. Remove the parking brake lever.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1255735 Size: SH
  1. Install the parking brake switch to the parking brake lever assembly and tighten to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

    2. Object Number: 1255734 Size: SH
  2. Install the parking brake lever assembly with bolts and tighten to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

    3. Object Number: 1255739 Size: SH
  3. Install the parking brake cable ends to the parking brake cable rod.

    4. Object Number: 1255741 Size: SH
  4. Install the parking brake adjustment nut to the eye bolt pull rod of the parking brake lever assembly. Be sure to check the parking brake adjustment by referring to the original removal adjustment nut measurement taken in the removal procedure. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment.
  5. Install the parking brake/gearshift console hood. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement.
