Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 6.2L

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the oil fill cap.
3. Remove Front Compartment Lower Noise Shield.
4. Remove the oil pan drain plug (3).
5. Drain the engine oil into an appropriate container.
6. Remove the engine oil filter (1) from the engine block (2).

Note:  Before installing the new oil filter, ensure that the old oil filter seal has been removed. If not, removed the old seal.

1. Lubricate the oil filter seal with clean engine oil.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

2. Install the oil filter (2) to the engine block (1) and tighten the engine oil filter to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
3. Install the oil pan drain plug (3) and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
4. Lower the vehicle.

Note:  DO NOT use any engine oil additives in Corvette engines.

5. Fill the engine with the appropriate amount and type of engine oil. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacitiesand Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations.
6. Start the engine, check for leaks and correct.
7. Shut the engine off and check the oil level.
8. Install the oil fill cap.
9. Close the hood.
10. Reset the engine oil life monitor. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting.

Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 6.2L LS9 and 7.0L LS7

1. Open the hood.



2. Remove the oil fill cap (2).
3. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .




Note: 6.2L LS9 shown, 7.0L LS7 similar

4. Remove both oil pan drain plugs (1).
5. Drain the engine oil into an appropriate container.




Note: 6.2L LS9 shown, 7.0L LS7 similar

6. Remove the engine oil filter (1).

Caution: This engine uses a special high performance oil filter. Use of any other filter may lead to filter failure and/or severe engine damage.

Note: Before installing the new oil filter, ensure that the old oil filter seal has been removed. If not, remove the old seal.

1. Lubricate the NEW oil filter seal with clean engine oil.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Note: 6.2L LS9 shown, 7.0L LS7 similar

2. Install the oil filter (1) and tighten to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) .

Use oil filter UPF48R or equivalent.





Note: 6.2L LS9 shown, 7.0L LS7 similar

3. Install both oil pan drain plugs (1) and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) .
4. Lower the vehicle.




Note: DO NOT use any engine oil additives in Corvette engines.

5. Add 10.0 liters (10.5 quarts) of oil to the dry sump tank. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations for engine oil requirements.
6. Check the oil level.
7. Install the oil fill cap (2).
8. Start the engine, check for leaks and correct.
9. Shut the engine off, wait 2-5 minutes and check the oil level using the oil level indicator (1).

Add oil if needed to bring the oil level to the full mark.

10. Close the hood.
11. Reset the engine oil life system. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting .
