Special Tools

    • J 24402-A Glass Sealant Remover (Cold Knife)
    • J 39032 Stationary Glass Removal Tool
    • Use a urethane adhesive systems which meet GM Specification GM 3651G

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Lower the door windows.
  3. Note: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and inner trim.

  4. Remove the windshield wiper arms. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement.
  5. Perform the appropriate step:
  6. • For the coupe, remove the roof lift-off panel.
    • For the convertible, lower the folding top.

  7. Remove the hood air inlet screen seal. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement.

  8. Object Number: 71294  Size: SH
  9. Remove the air inlet screen panel. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement.
  10. Remove the lower windshield supports from the cowl panel, if equipped.

  11. Object Number: 71182  Size: SH
  12. Remove the rearview mirror. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement.
  13. Warning: Refer to Defroster Outlet Warning in the Preface section.

  14. Cover the following parts to protect from broken glass:
  15. 9.1. The upper dash pad
    9.2. The defroster outlets and the A/C outlets
    9.3. The seats and the carpeting

  16. Remove the windshield weatherstrip. Refer to Weatherstrip Replacement.

  17. Object Number: 71176  Size: SH
  18. Remove the windshield side reveal moldings. Refer to Windshield Side Reveal Molding Replacement.

  19. Object Number: 386109  Size: SH
  20. Remove the windshield side garnish moldings and retainer clips from the windshield frame

  21. Object Number: 377018  Size: SH
  22. Remove the 4 rearmost screws that attach the top of the fender to the wheelhouse.
  23. Warning: When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury.

    Note: Tape or otherwise protect the fender from the cutting tool.

  24. Reposition the top of the fender for tool access.

  25. Object Number: 71179  Size: SH

    Note: Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window.

  26. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
  27. • Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
    • The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
    • Use J 24402-A , J 39032 or equivalent in order to remove the window.

  28. Remove the bottom of the window from the urethane adhesive using a long utility knife or similar tool. Keep the cutting edge of the utility knife against the glass. Do this from inside the vehicle.

  29. Object Number: 441419  Size: SH
  30. Remove the windshield (1) from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant (2).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install a stationary window into the opening. Refer to Adhesive Installation of Stationary Windows.

  2. Object Number: 71176  Size: SH
  3. Install the windshield side reveal moldings. Refer to Windshield Side Reveal Molding Replacement.

  4. Object Number: 405734  Size: SH
  5. Install the windshield weatherstrip. Refer to Weatherstrip Replacement.
  6. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 377018  Size: SH
  7. Install the fender mounting screws.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  9. Install the air inlet screen. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement.

  10. Object Number: 71296  Size: SH
  11. Install the air inlet screen seal. Refer to Air Inlet Grille Panel Replacement.
  12. Install the windshield wiper arms and washer hoses. Refer to Windshield Wiper Arm Replacement and Windshield Washer Hose Replacement.

  13. Object Number: 386109  Size: SH
  14. Install the windshield side garnish moldings.

  15. Object Number: 71182  Size: SH
  16. Remove the rearview mirror. Refer to Inside Rearview Mirror Replacement.
  17. Perform the appropriate step:
  18. • For the coupe, install the roof lift-off panel.
    • For the convertible, raise and close the folding top.
  19. Close the door windows.
  20. Remove the double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
  21. Close the hood.
