Auto Volume Operation For US8 Ans US9 RPO Radios - keywords display loud max med min MP3 radio soft volume

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Some customers may comment that they cannot select between AUTO VOLUME MIN, AUTO VOLUME MED, or AUTO VOLUME MAX per the owners manual. Further inspection may show that their radio selection only allows for AUTO On or AUTO Off. This is due to an error in the customers owners manual. The owners manual for this feature does not specify between the US8 and US9 radio. Refer to the information below for auto volume operation. The US8 radio is a single disc CD and MP3 player. The US9 is a multi-disc, in-dash, CD and MP3 player. These radios do not operate the same and the operation of this feature is based on the RPO of the radio that is installed in the vehicle.

Vehicles listed above equipped with the US8 radio will have the option to select between AUTO VOLUME MIN, AUTO VOLUME MED, or AUTO VOLUME MAX.

Vehicles listed above equipped with the US9 radio will have the option to select from AUTO On or AUTO Off.

This is the normal operating characteristics of these radios and no repairs are recommended. Replacing the radio will have no affect on this operation.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
