Subject:Buzz or Rattle Noise From Under Vehicle While Accelerating 2500-3500 rpm

Models:2005-2008 Corvette - Equipped With Transmission Cooler Only.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment of a buzz or rattle noise from under the vehicle. The Noise typically will occur between 2500-3500 rpms with the engine at normal operating temperature. This noise is noticed more when traveling up an incline while turning left or right. This may be the result of a transmission cooler line that fits loose in its retaining clamps on the torque tube. This line may vibrate with engine harmonics and rattle against the retaining clamps causing this noise.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Object Number: 2159329 Size: SH
  1. Inspect the transmission cooler lines where they are secured to the torque tube. Inspect the lines and be sure both lines are secured tightly in the clamp. Refer to number 1 in the illustration above. This illustration shows cooler lines that are loose in the clamp.

  2. Object Number: 2159333 Size: SH
  3. If the lines are loose, insulate the cooler line with a piece of rubber heater hose. Cut the rubber hose lengthwise so it can be placed over the cooler line and secured under the clamp. Refer to number 1 called out in the illustration above. Re-evaluate to ensure the noise was eliminated.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
