Subject:Procedure for Removal of Front License Plate Bracket

Models:2005-2006 Chevrolet Corvette

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The customer may have a need to remove the front license plate bracket on a 2005-2006 Corvette. The customer may move to a different state where the front bracket is no longer needed or it may need to be replaced for some type of cosmetic damage.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Remove the license plate bracket as if you are removing a body side molding. The front license plate bracket is held on the vehicle with 3 adhesive pads that resemble two sided tape. The adhesive pads are located in three different positions. Two of the pads are located at the top corner of the license plate bracket and the third adhesive pad is at the bottom center of the license plate bracket.

Please follow the removal procedure below:

  1. Apply a little heat with a low wattage heat gun "hair dryer" to soften the adhesive pads (3 positions) while gently pulling forward on the license plate bracket
  2. Slowly peel adhesive pads off the fascia surface one at a time (ensure that pad does not reattach itself).
  3. Peel remnants of adhesive off fascia surface with your fingers.
  4. Final surface cleanup with mineral spirits and light rubbing.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
