The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
When servicing the automatic transmission shifter knob, eSI document 1673097 is not correct. There was a running production change in 2006. The new shifter knob no longer uses a retaining clip to secure the shifter knob to the floor shifter.
To remove the shifter knob, locate the collar at the bottom of the shifter knob. Rotate this collar a quarter turn or less to release to collar and boot from the knob. This collar secures the shifter boot to the shifter knob. Once released, pull up on the shifter knob to remove. Be advised that the tolerance of shifter knob to the floor shifter are close. It may take an abundance of force to remove the knob from the shifter assembly.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
