Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection F Car


    Object Number: 178467  Size: SH

    Important: 

       • Do not reuse the oil pan cover gasket. Install a NEW cover gasket during assembly.
       • Do not reuse the oil pan to engine block gasket. Install a NEW gasket during assembly.
       • When installing a NEW oil pan gasket, it is not necessary to install the rivets that retain the NEW gasket to the pan.

  1. Remove the oil level sensor from the pan.

  2. Object Number: 178471  Size: SH
  3. Remove the oil pan cover, gasket, and bolts.

  4. Object Number: 639817  Size: SH
  5. Remove the oil pan drain plug and O-ring seal.

  6. Object Number: 178491  Size: SH
  7. Remove the oil pan baffle bolts and baffle.

  8. Object Number: 384699  Size: SH
  9. Drill out (3) the oil pan gasket retaining rivets (2), if required.
  10. Remove the gasket (1) from the oil pan.
  11. Clean the oil pan in solvent. Be sure to thoroughly clean all of the oil passages and recesses of the pan.
  12. Clean the oil pan gasket surfaces. Refer to Replacing Engine Gaskets .
  13. Caution: Wear safety glasses in order to avoid eye damage.

  14. Dry the oil pan with compressed air.
  15. Inspect the gasket sealing surfaces for excessive scratches or gouging. Refer to Replacing Engine Gaskets .

  17. Inspect the oil pan oil level sensor seal surface for damage.
  18. If the O-ring seal of the sensor is not cut or damaged, it may be reused.


    Object Number: 639817  Size: SH
  19. Inspect the oil pan drain plug and threaded drain hole for damaged threads.
  20. The drain plug O-ring seal may be reused if not cut or damaged.

  21. Inspect the oil filter sealing surface for scratches or gouging.
  22. Inspect the oil passages for restrictions.

  23. Object Number: 490699  Size: SH
  24. Inspect the oil filter fitting (1) for a loose fit or damaged threads.
  25. Inspect the oil filter bypass valve (2) for proper operation.
  26. Lightly push the bypass valve into the bore. The valve spring should reseat the valve to the proper position.

Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection Y Car


    Object Number: 63114  Size: SH

    Important: 

       • Do not reuse the oil pan gaskets. Install NEW gaskets during assembly.
       • When installing a NEW oil pan gasket, it is not necessary to install the rivets that retain the NEW gasket to the pan.

  1. Remove the oil level sensor from the pan.

  2. Object Number: 64842  Size: SH
  3. Remove the oil temperature sensor, oil pan cover, gasket, and bolts.

  4. Object Number: 74223  Size: SH
  5. Remove the oil pan drain plug and O-ring seal.

  6. Object Number: 384699  Size: SH
  7. Drill (3) out the oil pan gasket retaining rivets (2), if required.
  8. Remove the oil pan gasket (1).
  9. Discard the gasket.

  10. Object Number: 414783  Size: SH
  11. Remove the oil pan - lower - bolts (1-15).

  12. Object Number: 414785  Size: MH
  13. Separate the oil pan (1) - upper, gasket (2), oil pan (3) - lower, and bolts (4).
  14. Discard the oil pan gasket.

  15. Object Number: 414781  Size: SH
  16. Clean the oil pan halves in solvent. Be sure to thoroughly clean all of the oil passages and recesses of dirt and debris.
  17. Clean the oil pan gasket surfaces. Refer to Replacing Engine Gaskets .

  19. Dry the oil pan with compressed air.
  20. Inspect the gasket sealing surfaces for excessive scratches or gouging. Refer to Replacing Engine Gaskets .

  22. Inspect the oil pan oil level sensor seal surface damage.
  23. The O-ring seal of the sensor may be reused if not cut or damaged.


    Object Number: 74223  Size: SH
  24. Inspect the oil pan drain plug and threaded drain hole for damaged threads.
  25. The drain plug O-ring seal may be reused if not cut or damaged.


    Object Number: 64842  Size: SH
  26. Inspect the oil filter and pan cover sealing surface for scratches or gouging.
  27. Inspect the oil passages for restrictions.

  28. Object Number: 490699  Size: SH
  29. Inspect the oil filter fitting (1) for a loose fit or damaged threads.
