Give the same care to the storage and handling of compact discs as conventional records. Always hold the disc by its edges and always return the disc to the case immediately after playing, then further cleaning will not be necessary.
Cleaning Procedure
Important: DO NOT use solvent or abrasive cleaner to clean a compact disc. DO NOT use conventional record cleaner to clean a compact disc.
The compact disc may become soiled by fingerprints, dirt or dust. Clean a soiled compact disc by wiping in a straight line from the center to the edge using a clean, lint-free, soft, dry cloth. Inexpensive dedicated disc cleaning kits are available and are recommended.
Inspection Procedure
Compact discs are quite durable, however certain conditions will affect playback performance, possibly resulting in noise, skipping, or muting.
Inspect the disc and the disc player for the following, when diagnosing problems:
| • | Scratches on either the top or bottom surface of the disc. Particularly inspect the bottom surface (opposite the label). |
| • | Dirt, dust or fingerprints on either surface of the disc. |
| • | A warped disc. A disc may warp from playing a cold disc in a warm unit or vice versa. |
| • | Moisture (or condensation) on the disc, or moisture (or condensation) in the player. Moisture may result in the displaying of ERR and either muting or ejection of the disc. |
| • | Excessive interior or operating temperatures may cause ERR to be displayed, although the unit may continue to operate normally. |
