Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 68619  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  5. Remove the IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  6. Remove the driver knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement .
  7. Remove the IP passenger compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  8. Remove the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  9. Remove the park/lock control cable (A/T). Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement in Automatic Transmission - 4L60-E.
  10. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) electrical connector.

  12. Disconnect the SDM electrical connector.
  13. Remove the ignition switch bolts, then reposition the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .

  14. Object Number: 95700  Size: SH

    Important: The following step must be performed to assure proper trim fits during installation.

  15. Mark the location of the IP center support bracket. Refer to Instrument Panel Disassembly Precautions .
  16. Remove the center support bracket to driveline tunnel bolt - RH.

  18. Remove the center support bracket to passenger knee bolster bracket bolts.
  19. Remove the center support bracket to IP lower support beam bolt - RH.

  21. Remove the center support bracket to driveline tunnel bolt - LH.

    Important: The following step must be performed to assure proper trim fits during installation.

  23. Mark the location of the ignition switch housing bracket. Refer to Instrument Panel Disassembly Precautions .
  24. Remove the ignition switch housing bracket to steering column bracket bolt.
  25. Remove the center support bracket to IP lower support beam bolt - LH.
  26. Slowly pull the center support bracket away from the IP to access the radio control and HVAC control connectors.

  28. Disconnect the radio control electrical/audio and coaxial cable connectors.
  29. Disconnect the HVAC control electrical connectors and vacuum harness connectors (C60).
  30. Release the IP wiring harness retainer and the parking brake connector clip from the center support bracket.

  31. Object Number: 95676  Size: SH
  32. Remove the ignition switch housing bracket to center support bracket bolts.
  33. Remove the ignition switch housing bracket.
  34. Important: Take note of the IP harness routing through the IP center support bracket prior to removal.

  35. Remove the IP harness from the center support bracket.
  36. Remove the center support bracket from the vehicle.

  38. Remove the radio control retaining screws.

  39. Object Number: 65092  Size: SH
  40. Remove the radio control from the center support bracket.

  41. Object Number: 82062  Size: SH
  42. Remove the HVAC control retaining screws.
  43. Remove the HVAC control from the center support bracket.
  44. Remove the SDM from the center support bracket. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement in SIR.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 82062  Size: SH
  1. Install the SDM to the center support bracket. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Replacement in SIR.
  2. Install the HVAC control to the center support bracket.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the HVAC control retaining screws.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the HVAC control retaining screws to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  6. Align the radio control locator to the center support bracket locator hole, then push to install the radio control.

  7. Object Number: 65091  Size: SH
  8. Install the radio control retaining screws.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the radio control retaining screws to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  10. Position the ignition switch housing bracket to the center support bracket as marked prior to removal.
  11. Install the ignition switch housing bracket to center support bracket bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition switch housing bracket to IP center support bracket bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  13. Install the center support bracket to the vehicle.
  14. Install the IP wiring harness to the center support bracket as noted prior to removal.

  15. Object Number: 65093  Size: SH
  16. Secure the IP wiring harness retainer and the parking brake connector clip to the center support bracket.
  17. Connect the HVAC control electrical connectors and vacuum harness connectors (C60).
  18. Connect the radio control electrical/audio and coaxial cable connectors.

  19. Object Number: 95677  Size: SH
  20. Install the center support bracket into position as marked prior to removal.
  21. Install the center support bracket to IP lower support beam bolt - LH.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the IP center support bracket bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  23. Position the ignition switch housing bracket to the steering column bracket as marked prior to removal.
  24. Install the ignition switch housing bracket to steering column bracket bolt.
  25. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition switch housing bracket to steering column bracket bolt to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  26. Install the center support bracket to driveline tunnel bolt - LH.
  27. Tighten
    Tighten the IP center support bracket bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  28. Install the center support bracket to IP lower support beam bolt - RH.
  29. Tighten
    Tighten the IP center support bracket bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  30. Install the center support bracket to passenger knee bolster bracket bolts.
  31. Tighten
    Tighten the IP center support bracket bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  32. Install the center support bracket to driveline tunnel bolt - RH.
  33. Tighten
    Tighten the IP center support bracket bolt to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  34. Position and install the ignition switch to the ignition switch housing bracket. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  35. Connect the SDM electrical connector.

  36. Object Number: 68619  Size: SH
  37. Install the CPA to the SDM electrical connector.
  38. Install the park/lock control cable (A/T). Refer to Park Lock Cable Replacement in Automatic Transmission.
  39. Install the IP upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  40. Install the IP passenger compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  41. Install the driver knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement .
  42. Install the IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  43. Install the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  44. Connect the negative battery cable.
  45. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  46. Program the transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Synchronization and Transmitter Programming in Keyless Entry.
  47. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
