Electronic Column Lock Module - Disassemble - Off Vehicle Telescoping Column

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

•	Air bag deployment

•	Personal injury

•	Unnecessary SIR system repairs

In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:

•	Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.

•	If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
2. Remove the upper tilt head components. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
3. Pop the wire harness assembly (1) from the wire harness strap (2).
4. Disconnect the connector, if necessary



5. Remove the wire harness straps (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly.



6. Depress the top and bottom clips on the windshield wiper and washer switch assembly.
7. Slide the windshield wiper and washer switch assembly away from the electric column lock to disengage.



8. Remove the 3 pan head tapping screws (1).
9. Remove the electric column lock (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly.

Electronic Column Lock Module - Disassemble - Off Vehicle Non -Telescoping Column

•	Unnecessary SIR system repairs

In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:

•	Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.

•	If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
2. Remove the steering column tilt head assembly. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
3. Pop the wire harness assembly (1) from the wire harness strap (2).
4. Disconnect the connector, if necessary.



5. Remove the wire harness strap (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly.
6. Remove the wire harness strap (2) from the wire harness assemblies.



7. Depress the top and bottom clips on the windshield wiper and washer switch assembly.
8. Slide the windshield wiper and washer switch assembly away from the electric column lock to disengage.



9. Disconnect the electric column lock connector.
10. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws.
11. Remove the electric column lock from the steering column tilt head assembly.
