Probable Cause

Action

The engine idle quality (engine firing pulses) is being transmitted through the propeller shaft to the transmission.

  1. Inspect the engine idle quality (engine firing pulses).
  2. Repair the driveability concern as necessary.

(This may be a normal condition.)

The clutch driven plate damper is defective.

  1. Inspect the clutch driven plate damper springs for wear or damage.
  2. Replace the clutch driven plate, if necessary.

Refer to Clutch Pressure Plate and Clutch Driven Plate in Clutch.

The clutch release bearing is worn or faulty.

  1. Inspect the clutch release bearing for wear or damage.
  2. Replace the clutch release bearing, if necessary.

Refer to Release Bearing Replacement in Clutch.

The transmission has worn or damaged internal components.

  1. Remove the transmission.
  2. Refer to Transmission Replacement .

  3. Disassemble the transmission and inspect the following components for wear or damage:
  4. • Input gear bearings
    • Speed gear bearings
    • Bearing races
    • Thrust surfaces
