- Recover the refrigerant.

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
Important: Prior to removal, take note of the compressor hose routing and orientation
between the compressor and condenser.
- Using a back-up wrench on the condenser fitting (2), loosen the compressor
hose fitting (1) from the condenser.
Important: Cap or tape the open compressor hose and the condenser immediately.
- Disconnect the compressor hose from the condenser, discard the O-ring
seal and cap or tape the compressor hose and the condenser to prevent contamination.
- Lower the vehicle; leave
the vehicle on the hoist.
- Remove the battery heat shield. Refer to
Battery Heat Shield Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Remove the compressor hose to compressor retaining bolt.
Important: Cap or tape the open compressor hose and the compressor immediately.
- Disconnect the compressor hose from the compressor, discard the seal
washers and cap or tape the hose end and the compressor to prevent contamination.
- Remove the compressor
hose to accumulator retaining bolt.
Important: Cap or tape the open compressor hose and the accumulator immediately.
- Disconnect the compressor hose from the accumulator, discard the O-ring
seal and cap or tape the compressor hose and the accumulator to prevent contamination.
- Remove the compressor hose from the vehicle.
- Install the compressor
hose into position in the vehicle.
- Remove the cap or tape from the compressor hose and the accumulator.
- Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing
surfaces of the compressor hose and the accumulator.
- Lightly coat the O-ring seal (1) with mineral base 525 viscosity
refrigerant oil.
Important: DO NOT allow any of the mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant
oil on the O-ring seal to enter the refrigerant system.
- Carefully slide the new O-ring seal (1) onto the compressor hose until
seated.
Leave a light coating of the refrigerant oil to remain on the compressor
hose in the area indicated (2) ONLY.
- Install the compressor
hose to the accumulator.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the compressor
hose to accumulator retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose to accumulator retaining bolt to 20 N·m
(15 lb ft).
- Remove the cap or tape
from the compressor hose end (2) and the compressor (3).
- Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing
surfaces of the compressor hose (2) and the compressor (3).
- Lightly coat the new seal washers (1) with mineral base 525 viscosity
refrigerant oil.
Important: DO NOT allow any of the mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant
oil on the seal washers to enter the refrigerant system.
- Carefully slide the new seal washers (1) onto the compressor hose (2)
until seated.
- Install the compressor
hose to the compressor.
- Install the compressor hose to compressor retaining bolt.
Important: After tightening the compressor hose (3) to the compressor (2), there
should be a slight sealing washer gap (1) of approximately 1.2 mm (3/64 in)
between the compressor hose (3) and the compressor (2).
- Tighten the compressor hose to compressor retaining bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose to compressor retaining bolt to 26 N·m
(19 lb ft).
- Raise the vehicle.
- Route the compressor hose to the condenser as noted prior to removal.
- Remove the cap or tape from the compressor hose and the condenser.
- Using a lint-free clean, dry cloth, carefully clean the sealing
surfaces of the compressor hose and the condenser.
- Lightly coat the new O-ring seal (1) with mineral base 525 viscosity
refrigerant oil.
Important: DO NOT allow any of the mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant
oil on the O-ring seal to enter the refrigerant system.
- Carefully slide the new O-ring seal (1) onto the compressor hose until
seated.
- Install the compressor
hose to the condenser.
- Orientate the compressor hose to the condenser as noted prior
to removal.
- Using a back-up wrench
on the condenser fitting (2), secure the compressor hose fitting (1) to the
condenser.
Tighten
Tighten the compressor hose fitting to the condenser to 24 N·m
(17 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the battery heat shield. Refer to
Battery Heat Shield Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
- Program the transmitters. Refer to
Transmitter Programming/Synchronization
in Keyless Entry.
- Evacuate and charge the refrigerant system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Check the compressor hose to accumulator, compressor and condenser
joints for leaks. Refer to
Leak Testing
.
