Tire/wheels are unbalanced

Balance the tire/wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Balancing in Vibration Diagnosis and Correction.

Do the tires still exhibit unusual bouncing or hop?

Go to Step 2

System OK

  1. Inspect the tires for proper inflation. Refer to Tire Inflation Pressure Specifications in Maintenance and Lubrication. Correct the tire inflation pressure as necessary.
  2. Inspect the tires for unusual wear. Refer to Tire Diagnosis - Irregular or Premature Wear in Tires and Wheels.

Do the tires still exhibit unusual bouncing or hop?

Go to Step 3

System OK

  1. Inspect the tires for excessive wheel or tire runout. Refer to Tire Diagnosis - Irregular or Premature Wear in Tires and Wheels.
  2. Inspect the tires for unusual wear. Refer to Tire Diagnosis - Irregular or Premature Wear in Tires and Wheels.

Do the tires still exhibit unusual bouncing or hop?

Go to Step 4

System OK

Inspect the tires for lead-pull.Refer to Radial Tire Lead/Pull Correction in Tires and Wheels. Correct the lead-pull as necessary.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Push and pull on the stabilizer shaft.
  3. Is the stabilizer shaft loose?
  4. Inspect all of the stabilizer shaft componants and fasteners. Tighten as necessary. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Replacement in Rear Suspension.

Do the tires still exhibit unusual bouncing or hop?

Go to Step 6

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Inspect the rear transverse spring for loosness, cracks, or damage. Repair as necessary. Refer to Rear Transverse Spring Replacement in Rear Suspension.

Do the tires still exhibit unusual bouncing or hop?

Go to Step 7

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Use your hands to push and pull the shock absorbers.

Is either shock absorber worn, leaking or loose?

Go to Step 8

Replace the loose or worn shock absorber. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement in Rear Suspension.

Has the repair been performed?
