Removal Procedure

Caution:  When a hood hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

Notice: When removing body panels, apply tape to corners of panel and adjacent surfaces to help prevent paint damage.

  1. Mark the location of the hinge on the hood and the rail using a grease pencil.
  2. Remove the hood struts.

  3. Object Number: 71267  Size: SH
  4. Support the hood in a partially open position so that access is provided to the forward bolt attaching the hinge to the hood.
  5. Remove the bolts attaching the hinge to the hood.

  6. Object Number: 71266  Size: SH
  7. Remove the nuts attaching the hinge to the front side rail.
  8. Remove the hinge.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 71267  Size: SH
  1. Align the hinge within the scribed marks on the hood.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts attaching the hinge to the hood.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the hinge to the hood bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Align the hinge base within the marked areas on the side rail.
  6. Install the nuts attaching the hinge to the side rail.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the hinge to the frame rail nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb in).

  8. Install the struts.
  9. Remove the support and carefully lower the hood.
  10. Adjust the hood fit as necessary.
