For 1990-2009 cars only

The following servicing steps for the ABS system and/or the Magnasteer® system must be followed in order. Failure to follow the steps in order may result in the loss of important diagnostic data. Failure to follow the steps in order may lead to difficult and time-consuming diagnostic procedures:

  1. Perform the following vehicle preliminary diagnostic inspection:
  2. • Inspect the Magnasteer® actuator
    • Inspect the Magnasteer® actuator electrical components
    • Inspect the EBTCM Electrical Connector
    • Inspect the Steering Wheel Position Sensor
  3. Perform a Diagnostic System Check, refer to ABS/Traction Control Select DTC History to note the last malfunction that occurred if a DTC is displayed.
  4. Test drive the vehicle while using the automatic snapshot feature of the scan tool under the following conditions:
  5. • If no DTCs are present
    • If mechanical component malfunctions are present
    • If the failure is intermittent and not reproducible
  6. Perform the following while test driving the vehicle:
  7. • Normal acceleration
    • Normal stopping
    • Normal turning maneuvers
  8. If the failure is not reproducible, Refer to Enhanced Diagnostics to determine if the malfunction should be diagnosed further based on frequency of failure.
  9. Clear the Magnasteer® DTC when all system malfunctions are corrected.
