Telescoping Steering Column System Check

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the off position.
  2. Install the scan tool.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the on position.
  4. Select display DTC function with the scan tool.
  5. Check for any DTCs related to either door, seat, or steering column operation.

No DTCs are stored in memory or current status.

    • DTC is stored in memory or current status (refer to appropriate DTC table).

  1. Turn the ignition to the off position.
  2. Remove the scan tool from the diagnostic link connector.
  3. Check the telescoping steering column operation by operating the switch in the in and out positions.

The telescoping steering column moves in and out.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the on position.
  2. Engine is off, vehicle is in park/neutral and not moving.
  3. Move the telescoping steering column to the full in position.
  4. Depress and hold the Memory 1 button until the memory indicator flashes once.
  5. Move the telescoping steering column to the full out position.
  6. Depress and hold the Memory 2 button until the memory indicator flashes once.
  7. Choose one other steering column position between the two previous settings.
  8. Depress and hold both the Memory 1 and Memory 2 buttons until the memory indicators flash once.
    • The Memory 1 indicator will glow steady for one second and then flash once when the position for Memory 1 completed.
    • Memory 1 is set in the full in position.
    • The Memory 2 indicator will glow steady for one second and then flash once when the position for Memory 2 completed.
    • Memory 2 is set in the full out position.
    • The Memory 1/2 indicator will glow steady for one second and then flash once when the position for Memory 1/2 completed.
    • Memory 1/2 is set in the chosen position.

Test the Memory functions.

  1. Depress the Memory 1 button.
  2. Depress the Memory 2 button.
  3. Depress the Memory 1 and the Memory 2 buttons simultaneously.
    • The telescoping steering column will move to the Memory 1 position (full in).
    • The telescoping steering column will move to the Memory 2 position (full out).
    • The telescoping steering column will move to the Memory 1/2 position (chosen in step 3).
