Install a scan tool and establish communications with the Body Control Module (BCM).

Does the scan tool communicate with the BCM?

Display the DTCs with the scan tool.

Are any DTCs stored, relating to BCM communications or theft deterrent?

Go the appropriate DTC diagnostic routine.

  1. Remove the theft deterrent relay.
  2. Connect a test light from the relay connector terminal C2 to ground.
  3. With the transmission in park, or clutch pedal depressed, turn the ignition switch to the start position.

Does the test light illuminate?

Connect the test light from the theft deterrent relay connector terminal C1 to ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Connect a DMM from the theft deterrent relay connector terminal A1 to ground.
  2. Measure the resistance to ground of circuit 625, with the transmission in park, or clutch pedal depressed, and the ignition switch in the start position.

Is the resistance within specified values?

0-2 ohms

  1. Connect a DMM from the theft deterrent relay connector terminal A2 to the starter S terminal.
  2. Measure the resistance of circuit 6.

Is the resistance within specified values?

0-2 ohms

  1. Reinstall the theft deterrent relay.
  2. Connect a test light from the starter S terminal to ground.
  3. With the transmission in park, or the clutch pedal depressed, turn the ignition switch to the start position.

Does the test light illuminate?

Inspect the CRK fuse #14 for an open.

Is the fuse open?

  1. Remove the CRK fuse #14.
  2. Connect a test light from the fuse terminal B in the instrument panel electrical center to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the start position.

Does the test light illuminate?

Inspect the IGN 2 fuse #50 for an open.

Is the fuse open?

--

  1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector C2.
  2. Connect a test light from connector C2 terminal A to ground.

Does the test light illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the park neutral position switch connector C1, or the clutch pedal position switch connector.
  2. Connect a DMM from the CRK fuse #14 terminal A in the instrument panel electrical center, to the
  3. • park neutral switch connector C1 terminal E.
    • clutch pedal position switch connector terminal A.
  4. Measure the resistance of circuit 1606.

Is the resistance within specified values?

0-2 ohms

Inspect the STARTER fuse #52 for an open.

Is the fuse open?

  1. Remove the STARTER fuse #52.
  2. Connect a DMM from the fuse terminal A in the instrument panel electrical center, to ground.
  3. Measure the resistance to ground of circuit 542.

Is the resistance within specified values?

Infinite

Inspect and repair the open or high resistance condition in circuit 625, if ok replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .

Inspect and repair the short to ground in circuits 1542 or 5. Refer to Power Distribution Power Distribution Schematics . If ok replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .

Inspect and repair the open or high resistance condition in circuit 5, if ok replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
