Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 74089  Size: SH

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Release the accessory drive belt tensioner (3).
  3. Remove the drive belt (5) from the engine.
  4. Remove and reposition the electronic brake control module from the bracket. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement in ABS.
  5. Remove the power steering gear from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering System.
  6. Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.

  8. Remove the power steering cooler bolts from the front crossmember.
  9. Remove the power steering cooler from the front crossmember and reposition.

  10. Object Number: 74089  Size: SH
  11. Release the air conditioning (A/C) belt tensioner (10).
  12. Remove the A/C drive belt (1) from the engine.
  13. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Removal and Engine Balancing .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Installation and Engine Balancing .
  2. Install the A/C drive belt (1) to the engine.
  3. Install the power steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering System.

  4. Object Number: 65353  Size: SH
  5. Install the power steering cooler to the front crossmember.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the power steering cooler bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering cooler bolts to 11 N·m (97 lb in).

  9. Install the starter motor. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

  12. Install the accessory drive belt (5) to the engine.
  13. Install the electronic brake control module to the bracket. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement in ABS.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  16. Program the Transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming/Synchronization in Keyless Entry.
