Valve Rocker Arm Cover Installation Left Side


    Object Number: 490696  Size: SH

    Important: All gasket surfaces should be free of oil or other foreign material during assembly.

    DO NOT reuse the valve rocker arm cover gasket.

    The valve rocker arm cover bolt grommets may be reused.

  1. Install a NEW cover gasket (1) into the valve rocker arm cover.

  2. Object Number: 260085  Size: SH
  3. Install the valve rocker arm cover onto the cylinder head.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the cover bolts with grommets.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  7. Install the ignition coils, wire harness, and bolts onto the mounting bracket.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  9. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent to the threads of the bracket bolts.
  10. Install the ignition coils and bracket assembly and bolts onto the rocker cover.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition coil bracket bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  12. Install the crankcase ventilation hose.

    Important: All gasket surfaces should be free of oil or other foreign material during assembly.

    DO NOT reuse the valve rocker arm cover gasket.

    The valve rocker arm cover bolt grommets may be reused.

    If the oil fill tube has been removed from the valve rocker arm cover, install a NEW oil fill tube during assembly.

  1. Lubricate the O-ring seal of the NEW oil fill tube with clean engine oil.
  2. Insert the NEW oil fill tube into the rocker arm cover and rotate the tube clockwise until locked in the proper position.
  3. Install the oil fill cap into the tube and rotate clockwise until locked in the proper position.

  5. Install a NEW gasket (1) into the valve rocker arm cover.

  6. Object Number: 260084  Size: SH

  8. Install the cover bolts with grommets.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  10. Install the ignition coils, wire harness, and bolts onto the mounting bracket.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition coil bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  12. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345382 or equivalent to the threads of the bracket bolts.
  13. Install the ignition coils and bracket assembly and bolts to the rocker cover.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition coil bracket bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  15. Install the crankcase ventilation hoses to the cover.
