  1. Disconnect the theft deterrent relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the theft deterrent relay terminal A1 and B+.
  3. Turn the ignition to START.

  1. Connect a test lamp between the theft deterrent relay C1 and ground.
  2. Turn the ignition to START.

  1. Connect a test lamp between the theft deterrent relay C2 and ground.
  2. Turn the ignition to START.

Does the test lamp go on?

Go to Step 5

  1. Check for an open in CKT 5 or power feed CKT 102.
  2. Repair as necessary.
  3. Connect the test lamp.

Does the lamp go on?

Go to Step 5

Important: Do not allow the starter to crank longer than 15 seconds. Damage to the starter may occur.

  1. Attach a 30A fused jumper between the theft deterrent relay terminals C1 and A2.
  2. Place the transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL (auto) or press the clutch pedal (man).
  3. Turn the ignition to START.

Does the engine crank?

  1. Check for an open in CKT 269 from the theft deterrent relay terminal C2 to the transmission range switch terminal F (auto) or the clutch start switch terminal A (man).
  2. Check for opens or poor connections at the transmission range switch (auto) or the clutch start switch (man).
  3. Check for an open in CKT 5 from the transmission range switch terminal E (auto) or the clutch start switch terminal B (man) to S223.
  4. Repair the open or the poor connection as needed.

Is the repair complete

  1. Check for a poor connection to the relay. If OK, replace the theft deterrent relay.
  2. Check CKT 6 to the starter solenoid for a possible short.
  3. Repair short as necessary.

  1. With the fused jumper still connected, connect a test lamp from the starter solenoid terminal S to ground.
  2. Place the transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL (auto) or press the clutch pedal (man).
  3. Turn the ignition to START.

Does the test lamp go on?

  1. Check for a poor connection at the starter solenoid terminal S.
  2. If OK, replace the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

  1. With the test lamp to ground, backprobe C210 terminal A.
  2. Place the transmission in PARK or NEUTRAL (auto) or press the clutch pedal (man).
  3. Turn the ignition to START.

Does the test lamp go on?

  1. Check for a poor connection at C210 terminal A.
  2. If OK, repair open in CKT 6 between C210 and the starter solenoid.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Check for a poor connection at C210 terminal A.
  2. If OK, repair the open in CKT 6 between C210 and the theft deterrent relay terminal A2.
