ANTI-CORROSION COATING OF THE ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSORS
When installing a new or used wheel speed sensor, anti-corrosion sealer must be used to prevent galvanic corrosion. Section 5E of the service manual outlines the correct service procedure. The cylindrical surface and mounting plate of the sensor, that comes in contact with the aluminium knuckle, must be thoroughly coated with anti-corrosion sealer. (P/N 992883 or equivalent).
The sensor must be clean and dry before applying the anti-corrosion sealer and any corrosion found in the knuckle opening must be removed using fine sandpaper. The sensor requires a push fit into the knuckle to prevent looseness, and care must be taken when removing corrosion not to enlarge or distort the knuckle opening. Never use a hammer when installing a wheel speed sensor.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
