Complaints may be received on some 1986 and 1987 Corvettes of low coolant light coming on. This condition has been analyzed to be caused by insufficient clamping of the recovery hose between the radiator and the recovery bottle. The following parts and procedure should correct this condition.
Part Number Description Quantity Required
10054615 Low Coolant Sensor Probe 1
22527587 Hose Clamp (Screw Type - Aircraft) 2
PROCEDURE
1. Clean radiator cap.
2. Remove the low coolant sensor probe from the radiator. (Drain coolant as necessary).
3. Install the new low coolant sensor probe in the radiator on cars not previously equipped with new design probe.
4. Remove the recovery hose from the nipples at the radiator and the bottle.
5. Remove any and all flash from the parting line on the nipples of the radiator and the bottle.
6. Reinstall the recovery hose using the (2) new hose clamps at the radiator and bottle.
7. Fill cooling system, start engine with cap removed, and refill.
8. Run three (3) thermal cycles of the engine (Cold to Operating Temperature, approximately 930C (2000F) to Cold) and add coolant to the recovery bottle to the full mark.
If this procedure and the new parts do not correct the low coolant light condition,, the total cooling system should be checked for insufficient hose clamping or leaks including the check of crankcase engine oil for traces of coolant which would indicate an internal engine leak of the coolant.
The following serial number breakpoints are 1986 and 1987 Corvettes that have the new low coolant sensor probe and new hose clamps.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
