Some comments have been made that the paint protective overlay on the subject vehicles has a poor appearance. This overlay, P/N 10051875, has been eliminated from production on 1987 vehicles, effective March 10, 1987. If a customer comments about the appearance of the overlay on his vehicle, it can be removed if the customer so desires. (The customer should be informed, however, to keep the surface clean where the overlay was if the convertible top is raised. This will help to reduce the possibility of abrasion to the paint.)
The overlay can be removed by using a heat gun (if necessary) and 3-M, P/N 08984, general purpose adhesive remover, or equivalent. The stowage compartment lid should be adjusted from flush to l.0mm higher than the rear upper panel. If the stowage compartment lid is out of adjustment, paint abrasion could result at its forward corners.
Use the most applicable labour operation from the Canadian Labour Time Guide and claim 0.4 hours. (Includes necessary adjustment and polish)
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
