ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSORS ANTI-CORROSION COATING

Model and Year: 1986-88 CORVETTE

When installing a new or used wheel speed sensor, the cylindrical surface and mounting plate of the sensor that comes in contact with the aluminum knuckle must be thoroughly coated with anti-corrosion sealer, P/N 12345106 or equivalent, as outlined in the Service Manual to prevent glavanic corrosion. (Do not use chassis grease as an anti-corrosion sealer.) The sensor must be clean and dry before applying the anti-corrosion sealer, and any corrosion found in the knuckle opening must be removed using fine sandpaper. The sensor requires a push fit into the knuckle to prevent looseness, and care must be taken when removing corrosion not to enlarge or distort the knuckle opening. Never use a hammer when installing a wheel speed sensor.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
