Accelerator Controls Accelerator Control Cable
Removal Procedure
- Remove the left sound insulator. Refer to Section 8C.
- Remove the release cable retainer from the lever assembly.
- Depress the cable tangs and push forward toward the engine compartment.
- Remove the air intake duct.
- Remove the screws (1) to the accelerator control splash shield.
- Remove the shield (5).
- Disconnect the cruise control cable, if equipped.
- Depress the tangs on the cable through the cable bracket (3).
- Remove the cable (2) from the cam.
Installation Procedure
- Route the cable through the cable bracket (3).
- Press the cable upward through the bracket.
- Ensure that the tangs expand and properly seat.
- Connect the cruise control cable.
- Install the accelerator control splash shield (5).
- Install the screws (1) to shield.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the air intake duct.
- Route the cable through the cowl.
- Slip the accelerator cable (2) through the slot in the rod and
then install the retainer in the rod, being sure that it is seated.
Important: Flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) must not be routed
within 50 mm (2.0 in) of moving parts of accelerator linkage
outboard of support unless the routing is positively controlled.
- Check for correct opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator
pedal. Make sure that the throttle valve reaches a wide-open throttle
position. If it does not, inspect for damaged or bent brackets, levers, or
other components; or, for poor carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
- Install the left sound insulator. Refer to Section 8C.
Accelerator Controls Accelerator Cable Bracket
Removal Procedure
- Remove the accelerator cable splash shield attaching screws and the splash
shield from the accelerator cable bracket.
- Disconnect the accelerator, cruise and transmission cables (if
so equipped).
- Remove the accelerator cable bracket attaching bolts/nut (1) (2)
and the accelerator cable bracket (3).
Installation Procedure
Notice: Align the accelerator bracket with the accelerator cam in order to prevent
cable wear which could cause the cable to break.
- Install the accelerator cable bracket (3) with attaching nuts/bolt (1) (2).
- Install the top bolt to bracket.
- Install the bolt and nut to bracket.
Tighten
• | Tighten the top bolt first. |
• | Tighten bolt and nuts to 25 N·m(18 lb ft). |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.

the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Accelerator Controls Accelerator Pedal
Removal Procedure
- Remove the left sound insulator. Refer to Section 8C.
- Remove the release cable (1) retainer from the lever assembly.
- Remove the nuts to the cowl.
- Remove the pedal assembly (2).
Installation Procedure
Important: Flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) must not be routed
within 50 mm (2.0 in) of moving parts of accelerator linkage
outboard of support unless routing is positively controlled.
- Install the pedal assembly (2) to the cowl.
- Install the nuts to the cowl.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 30 N·m (25 lb ft).
