AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR HOSE/PIPE BREAKAGE
Some early built 1988 L-cars (reference VIN breakpoints below) may exhibit insufficient cooling from the air conditioning system, due to a crack in the air conditioning compressor hose/pipe.
Plant VIN Breakpoint ----- -------------- Wilmington JY545985 Linden JE541593
To repair this condition, the compressor hose/pipe should be replaced and a new brace should be installed. The new brace and required fasteners, which are, currently available through CANSPO, provide adequate support for the compressor hose/pipe to minimize breakage. The service part numbers for the brace and fasteners are shown below:
Service Part Number Quantity Part Number Description Required ----------- ----------- -------- 10087529 A/C Compressor Front Brace 1 10065416 A/C Compressor Bolt 1 22533540 A/C Compressor Bracket Bolt 1 10108257 A/C Compressor Hose/Pipe 1
Reference the attached illustration for the brace installation/location. Remove the right hand inner splash shield and attaching screws to install the brace. Verify that the air conditioning compressor fasteners are properly torqued.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
